Arizona Governor Jan Brewer angrily demanded yesterday that the White House withdraw their report to the UN Human Rights Council that singled out Arizona’s law as a cause for concern about the American track record on human rights. Calling such a reference “downright offensive” in her letter to Hillary Clinton, Brewer also called the entire report “internationalism run amuck”:

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer demanded Friday that a reference to the state’s controversial immigration law be removed from a State Department report to the United Nations’ human rights commissioner.

The U.S. included its legal challenge to the law on a list of ways the federal government is protecting human rights.

In a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Brewer says it is “downright offensive” that a state law would be included in the report, which was drafted as part of a UN review of human rights in all member nations every four years.
“The idea of our own American government submitting the duly enacted laws of a state of the United States to ‘review’ by the United Nations is internationalism run amok and unconstitutional,” Brewer wrote.

An immigration reform organization says the Obama administration clearly needs to have all its “ducks in a row” before talking about filing suit against Arizona’s new immigration enforcement bill.

Ever since SB 1070 was signed into law by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer, the Obama administration has threatened to challenge it with a federal lawsuit. But during a hearing of the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, Congressman Ted Poe (R-Texas) asked U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder if he had read the statute.

Poe: “Have you read the Arizona law?”

Holder: “I have not had a chance…I’ve glanced at it, I have not read it….”

Poe: “It’s ten pages. It’s a lot shorter than the healthcare bill, which was 2,000 pages long. I’ll give you my copy of it if you would like to have a copy.”

(later) Poe: “You have some concerns about the statute — and it’s hard for me to understand how you would have concerns about something being unconstitutional if you hadn’t even read the law.”

The Preamble to the Constitution has no force in law; instead, it establishes the “Why” of the Constitution. Why is this document in existence? It reflects the desires of the Framers to improve on the government they currently had (to be “more perfect” than the Articles of Confederation), to ensure that that government would be just, and would protect its citizens from internal strife and from attack from the outside. It would be of benefit to the people, rather than to its detriment. And, perhaps as importantly, it intended to do the same for the future generations of Americans. Obama just told us who he really is and what he stands for. All indications are he wants to turn us into a socialistic country and that is not happening. We Are Proud Americans and will stay that way. We will stand and use our constitution. It will be like MLK Jr’s March on DC in 1963, where he delivered his great “I had a Dream” speech. It was peaceful and people of all races and segments of the country marched arm in arm.
