The government likes to talk about the unemployment percent. It is calculated by dividing the number of people who are employed by the number who are available for work. So by changing the number who are available for work, the unemployment percent can increase or decrease without any changes to the number who are employed. By counting part time employees like the census workers, the unemployment percent decreases without any real increase to full time employees.
So rather than look at the unemployment percentage, let's look at some simple statistics about full time employees in the USA.
The population of the USA increases per year by almost 2%. So it can be reasoned that the number of employees in the USA should also increase by 2% to maintain consumption power in our economy.
When George Bush took office, there were 132,469,000 people employed in the USA. At a 2% increase per year, that number should have increased to 158,312,000 by mid 2010 to maintain the same percentage of people employed as at the start of 2001. That increase of 2% per year would also have produced a corresponding increase to GDP since 70% of the USA GDP is from consumption.
Instead, employment in the USA is about 130 million which is 18% below where is should be just to maintain the same economic condition as in 2001. There are several reasons for this...including that the segment of America that is between the ages of 40 and 55 is decreasing (that population segment is the economic driver for the economy) while the number of those who are over 65 is increasing. The cause for this is because of the extremely low birth rate from 1970 to 1985...not because of aging baby boomers. The ramifications of this are low GDP growth, Social Security insolvency, too few tax revenues, and rising healthcare costs per capita.
The Democrats love to blame this situation on George W. Bush. But the fact is that when the Democrats took complete control of the Congress at the end of 2006, employment was about 137 million. During the last 4 years of Democrat control of the Congress, employment has decreased to 130 million for a net loss of 7 million jobs. That should be compared to a net increase of jobs from 2002 to 2006 of 7 million jobs (130 million to 137 million) during the four years when the Republicans had complete control of Congress.
Now, Democrats can say all they want about how the stimulus bill saved jobs, but the fact is that instead of growing jobs at 2% per year, there has been a 7 million net loss of jobs since the Democrats took control of Congress. A 2% increase for four years would be about 10 million jobs. So 10 million plus 7 million means that the Democrats have failed to produce 17 million jobs to maintain the economy. The ramifications are staggering to Social Security receipts, to growth in GDP, to tax revenues, to health insurance premiums, and to cultural changes from immigration that has been used to offset the low birth rates of 1970 to 1985.
This has been much worse for the private sector as its jobs have decreased substantially as government jobs have increased significantly. Today, the USA has more people working for federal and local governments than the people who are employed in the combination of manufacturing and construction. This is a losing strategy as there are fewer workers in the private sector to pay taxes to employ the growing number of government workers.
So what is the answer that the Democrats propose?
1. increase taxes.
2. increase the number of government workers....especially union workers.
3. increase government entitlement programs like healthcare "insurance."
4. increase barriers to imported products.
5. increase immigrants...especially illegal immigrants.
All of these will increase the economic problems for the USA. All of these will continue to destroy America.
So what is the real answer?
First: remove all of those Democrat lawyers from political office. They understand how to pass laws but lack any understanding about what laws need to be passed that will help America.
And then next: attack the real problems...how do we encourage manufacturing companies to locate to the USA? How do we encourage young professional American citizens to have more babies? How do we increase production of energy for use in our country? And then how do we cut back on government discretionary spending and stop all of these new entitlement programs?
We need to Save America now from these politicians who are destroying our country.
